This short film is called 'Under the bed, its a horror film. The film linear because it follows a straight line of events as you can see in the film. This is also a single drama because the story line is like a short film and ends like a film as well. As you can see from the start of the short film its a horror film.
The first clip is establishing shot of this haunted house ,this tells the audience already that the film is already looking eary and a bit spooky. The darkness of the sky is making the house look dull and dark. The moon is making the house light up in some parts of the house this could suggest that this is where the thing might be under the bed. The lights are on down stairs this suggest someone is in, and maybe nothing will happen. There is non digetic sound which is music, the music is a slow, peaceful pace. This makes the audience think differently about the house again and thinking it has a mellow atmosphere.
The director has used a long shot to show the surroundings of the house. Also he has used it because he wants to show the characters who live in the house. As you can see the lighting in the house is very bright and makes the house looks welcoming and cosy. On the right hand corner there is a Christmas tree, so automatically the director is showing that it is winter and its coming up to a happy time of year which is Christmas. There is a little girl sitting here pyjamas because we can see the whole of her body including her face this could imply that she is the main character in the film. Therefore because you cant see the parents/guardians this shows that they are not the main character. A master shot has been used in this clip to show all the family. However in this clip there is still music going on and it is still very calming and soothing still suggesting nothing is going to happen.
This is a mid shot of the dog and the little girl this looks like she's having fun with the dog, the dog is like her best friend. However the camera looks like it is positioned underneath a table because you can see something at the left hand side. This could be suggesting that because its underneath something it could symbolise someone or something watching her, or being under the bed. The lighting in this clip is still very bright and it makes the clip look happy and a joyful place to be. There is still happy music going on this symbolise the little girls happiness because she is smiling and looks like she is enjoying her sense. However in the shot there is a lot of head room being shown, this might be because the way the camera is positioned.
In this clip the director has used a close up on the little girls hand touching the dogs face or mouth. This suggest that she wants to feel safe and she knows that the dog is there and looking after her. The lighting in this clip is really dark and it doesn't look like there is even lighting in the room. This makes the audience maybe feel sorry for the little girl as she is on her own with no lighting. However the dogs eyes looks like it has spotted something because they are really wide and staring at something. This could also make the audience wonder what the dog is staring at. However it is still really silent in the room and all you can hear is the dog licking its lips. After that shot the camera starts to fade out to show that the little girl is sleeping.
This is a mid shot that the director has used this is showing the little girl looking really confused. Composition (rule of thirds) has been used because the little girl is on the left hand side of the shot and not straight in the middle. The lighting in this shot is bright again because she is somewhere where there is light, this can also suggest the little girl is feeling safer again. There is no sound in this scene its to make the audience focus on what she is looking at. However when the little girls turns around the long high pitched sound comes in again, to also make the audience think what has she just seen? or who has she turned round and saw?. However throughout out this scene you can see the little girls shadow in the window. This could show that the audience might be worried to see something else apart from her in the window.
This is a extreme close up of the little girls. However she has some sort of slim across her, this making the audience wonder WHAT IS THAT!. When the slim goes on her hand you can her a weird sound that could make the audience wonder again. The lighting on the hand is slyly shining of the shine the director obviously wanted this to happen because it gives that unknown slim on her look more effective towards the audience. However depth of field has been used in this shot because the hand is in focus and the background is out of focus. The director has done this because the hand is the main object of this clip, its the main focus.

These 2 clips the director has used the camera angles are both mid shots of a monkey and a china doll. This could symbolise innocence of the toys because toys cant hurt anyone or anything they are not human. However the way the director has cut from the shot of the monkey back to the little girl looking really worried and then used a shot reverse shot back to the china doll. This shows that the little girl may be scared and might be thinking its coming from them. When this shot is happening the editing of this clip speeds up a lot because it wants to show that its trying to show that the little girl is looking around, so the directors wants to show that the camera movement being used is to symbolise her eyes. The lighting in this clip is still really dark and dull, however the toys are brighten up by some light this to show the audience what the toys actually are and also to show what the girl is looking at.
In conclusion of this short film 'Under the bed' the continuity editing used, was effective towards the film because in some of the clips it brings a lot of suspense and worry especially towards the audience. However the lighting through out the film was very dark when it was getting filmed in the bedroom with the little girl. When the film is getting towards the end the pace of the film gets faster this is because the drama and suspense is coming in, this shows that it is a horror film.

"In these 2 clips they are both close ups of the girls sleeping and then waking up. The director has created this by using fade were the camera fades out of one shot and then fades back in to create effect that she has been sleeping, this can also be called continuity." - you discuss transitions here
