Breaking bad

Breaking Bad

At  the start of the 'This is not meth' scene from breaking bad, you see a man taking his jacket, this could suggest to the audience that because it is a mid shot of him he could be taking it off for a fight. The director may wanted to focus on the mans top half because the audience needed to see that he was serious about fighting. After there is a close up on his face to show his facial expressions, the lighting in this is quite dark to show this is a serious atmosphere. This could make the audience very on edge, because having dark lighting everything on screen might not be as clear as it should be. However in the close up you can see he has a gold tooth, this imply s he could be a bad and vicious person. After that the camera pans round to another man with glasses on, he is looking down(high angle) at the other character, which suggest he is angry at him and he doesn't  feel intimidated by the way he laughed at him and the way he took off his jacket. The lighting is still really dark this shows that there is still a tense atmosphere. When the man 'shhhs' him the camera follows his hand onto the table this makes the audience more intrigued in what he is doing, the audience want to know more about it and what he is reaching for on the table. After rule of thirds is used, his hand was blurry but his face on the right was very clear, this telling the audience to focus on him and not what is in his hand ,his facial expressions and to see how angry and annoyed he is getting. After he says something and throws the meth to the ground the camera his arm to the floor, then there is another camera on the floor looking up this is a low angle so this can affect the way the audience feel about the meth looking like its getting thrown straight at them. There also has been a multiple camera production been used to shoot this scene . You then quickly see an establishing shot of the building, so you can see where they were and how much that explosion effect the building and the people standing outside. The best breaking bad scene, shows the start there is a over the shoulder shot, this is show the facial expressions from the other character, but the audience don't know who is talking to him. Establishing shot all the bikers have arrive, this makes the scene look real and believable. It then zooms and follows some feet walking across the road, the audience wants to know who is this person? why's he walking like that?. By the audience thinking them questions the director and producer have created open questions for the audience. Then cuts straight back to the man talking this implies he might be walking over to him. The lighting is really natural because it is coming from outside. Zooms out and slightly uses a low angle to show the man walking across the road, blood all over his face. Natural lighting has been used because it cheaper for the director, it looks better because your outside. However they didn't have natural lighting when they were in the building this shows they were using low key lighting to make the soft and not that showable in the room itself.

  1. Again, good effort here some thorough analysis (M) with some parts still descriptive (P)

The points about rule of thirds and the use of focus is well observed and shows detail.

    Improvements:

You could also refer to the effect of having the biker gang filmed together as a gang shows they are united

Angles - you refer to the low angle but what does it imply about the character's power.

"the lighting in this is quite dark" & " dark lighting" - the techniques is called low-key lighting
